EVO ICL at Lusk Eye Specialists
Lusk Eye Specialists is proud to announce an exciting vision correction alternative for patients who are extremely nearsighted or have been told they are not a candidate for LASIK. In fact, the actor and entertainer, Joe Jonas (Jonas Brothers), chose the EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure to help him get rid of the hassles of glasses and contacts. You can read his story here.
What Is the EVO ICL?
The EVO ICL is an artificial lens that is implanted inside the eye but can be removed in the future, if necessary. It is designed to correct myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism and is quickly becoming the procedure of choice for certain patients who are frustrated with myopia and/or astigmatism and may be experiencing dry eye syndrome. An easy way to understand the EVO ICL is to think of it as a contact lens that is simply implanted inside the cornea of the eye vs. worn as a typical contact lens on the outside of the cornea.
Is the EVO ICL Procedure Right for Me?
The ideal candidate for the EVO ICL is between the ages of 21-45, is moderately to severely nearsighted (a prescription of -3D to -20D), has not had a change in prescription in the past several years and is looking for a procedure that does not cause dry eye syndrome.
Am I a Good Candidate for the EVO ICL Procedure?
To help determine if you are an ideal EVO ICL candidate at Lusk Eye Specialists, you need to schedule an appointment with one of our eye doctors. He or she will perform a series of standard tests to measure your eye’s unique characteristics for the procedure. Once our team has determined that EVO ICL is a good option for you, we will educate you about the procedure and what to expect both during and after the procedure.
EVO ICL Surgery at Lusk Eye Specialists
If it is determined you are an ideal candidate and you wish to go forward with your EVO ICL procedure, you will be scheduled for the procedure in our Ambulatory Surgery Center. When you arrive for your procedure, we will administer eye drops to dilate your pupils as well as anesthetize your eyes. You should feel little or no discomfort during your brief EVO procedure.
How EVO ICL Surgery Works
During your EVO procedure, our surgeon will create one small opening at the base of your cornea to insert the EVO ICL. The procedure is painless because of the numbing medication. The EVO ICL then can be folded and inserted through the small incision made by our surgeon. Once the lens is inserted, we will make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper positioning in the eye.
Vision After the EVO Procedure
Immediately following your brief procedure, many patients will have improved vision nearly immediately. Our medical team will prescribe more eye drops intended to aid in the healing process following the procedure. On the day of your procedure, you will need someone to drive you home.
EVO ICL — a Solution for Dry Eye
Our new EVO ICL does not cause contact lens induced dry eye nor dry eye syndrome. The EVO ICL also has a unique barrier of UV protection for active people who love the outdoors. Below is a highlight video of how the EVO ICL is capable of not simply improving your vision, but improving your life as well.
