What to Expect on LASIK Day
At Lusk Eye Specialists, we’re proud to offer our own brand of LASIK eye surgery, called Lusk LASIK. This is a life-changing vision correction procedure that people compare to the experiences of getting married, having a child, or buying your first house.

Lusk LASIK Starts with the Lusks
James E. Lusk, M.D., was a pioneer in refractive surgery. An educator in his field and a fellowship-trained cornea specialist, Dr. James Lusk is now joined by his two sons, Bryan E. Lusk, M.D., and Jeffrey D. Lusk, M.D. Together, they have performed thousands of successful LASIK eye surgeries in Shreveport and beyond.
But when you choose the Lusk family of eye surgeons for LASIK in Shreveport, you’ll get more than just a team of great surgeons — you’ll get a full staff of people who prioritize every detail of your LASIK experience from start to finish.
What to Expect at Your Lusk LASIK Consultation
Your Lusk LASIK experience starts the moment you enter our office for your free consultation. You’ll talk through the benefits of LASIK with a member of our surgery team, and we’ll ensure that you’re a candidate for the procedure.
If you decide LASIK is right for you, we’ll take care of everything from there! We have a dedicated LASIK Liaison on-staff — you can think of them as your tour guide on the journey to better vision. We’ll walk you through the entire process of LASIK, helping you stay informed and comfortable from start to finish.
Here’s a little about what you can expect from Lusk LASIK, before, during, and after surgery:
What to Expect Before Your Vision Correction Procedure
Once you decide to take the next step to the clear vision you deserve, our LASIK Liaison will help you schedule a LASIK exam with one of our highly recommended LASIK surgeons. This examination is different from your initial consultation. The LASIK exam is where we do multiple corneal scans on our state-of-the-art equipment, like the Galilei Corneal Topographer and the iDesign® Refractive Studio, to generate thousands of unique data points that are used to help design your LASIK treatment.
Additionally, Dr. Lusk will perform an extensive thorough dilated evaluation on your eyes. Experience matters. These are just a few ways we achieve the most precise, customized vision correction possible!
To keep you and your guests comfortable, we developed our LASIK Lounge. This is a dedicated area of our office equipped with everything you need, including plush chairs, coffee and refreshments, wi-fi, TVs, and other amenities — at Lusk Eye Specialists, we go the extra mile to make your experience memorable!
What to Expect on the Day of Your LASIK Procedure
When the day of your LASIK surgery arrives, all the hard work has already been done — you’ll be checked in and ready to go in no time!
The surgery itself is one of the lowest risk procedures being done today. In fact, the safety of LASIK has been confirmed in over 7,000 peer-reviewed studies internationally and leading experts say that the risk of complications from surgery is astronomically low — about five times lower than the risk associated with simply wearing contact lenses.
In other words, you have nothing to worry about. LASIK takes less than 10 minutes per eye to complete. You’ll feel virtually no pain, and the surgery will be over before you know it!
LASIK Recovery with Lusk Eye Specialists
When the procedure is complete, you will be walked over to an exam room at our office. Dr. Lusk will take one last look at your eyes before you head home and start enjoying your new and improved vision! Your surgeon will give you some instructions for things that you should avoid during your initial recovery, but most patients are able to see clearly in as little as 24 hours.
